Some memories from the original Resident Evil 2.
Memories of the original Resident Evil 2, its music, difficulty, and the feeling it left behind.

That game was magical to me. It was the first Resident Evil I ever played and the first one I finished. It’s also one of the few games that left me wanting to know more about the characters and what they did afterward. I didn’t even understand most of what they said; my English wasn’t as good then, and I was about 12. But that feeling made the Scenario A ending music I love even more magical.
Scenario A credits music
It’s a calm, beautiful piano piece. Its contrast with the game’s horror made the feeling even stronger. I love contrasts: zigzags, good and evil, black and white, and the highs and lows in music, to name a few. I was enamored with it.
“Human” was my favorite word for a while, along with “justice” at around the same time. For instance, all my Guild Wars 2 characters are human. I associate humanity with beauty, but I believe other species are beautiful too; I want to love life equally. In my search for valid answers, I know that’s the right path. Sometimes I feel like a demon, sometimes like an angel, but in the end I know I’m just human.
That music, playing right after the first ending (not the real one; that would be Scenario B’s), affected me in a special way. Magical.
Playing on hard
I knew this game inside and out. I played it for hundreds of hours, but always on easy. Then I had the marvelous idea of playing on “normal,” which for some reason I remember as “hard” (was hard an unlockable difficulty, or is my memory playing a joke on me?). And no, I’m not being sarcastic: IT WAS A MARVELOUS IDEA. I remember the experience fondly.
It was a different experience.
Bullets were scarcer, and unlike on easy, you just couldn’t kill everyone. There were more enemies (if I recall correctly), but for the most part I knew what was ahead. Perhaps because of that familiarity, the experience gave me a strong new feeling. I kind of remember thinking I should always play games on hard, but I never did.
That brings us to the remake. I remembered that experience and thought about trying it again. As if the universe had conspired in my favor, my friends gave me the game a few weeks later, on my 36th birthday in 2023.

I started on Hardcore and made it to the first boss, Birkin, but then my SSD broke, and I haven’t continued yet. I have to say, it’s very good. I’m loving it so far. This new Claire is gorgeous. Her beautiful face and the shy, flirty way she speaks to Leon are hypnotizing.
All the other RE games
After playing the other games, including the first one, I feel satisfied. I now know more about these lovely characters. The universe is no longer mysterious to me; I know it quite well, especially the RE6 story, which brings several main characters into conflict. For example, Chris and Leon fight before they recognize each other. It was very cool and even shows that they’re evenly matched.
I’ve played most of them, but not all, so I still have a lot of Resident Evil to discover: RE0, RE:CV, and Village, to name a few.
